Top Five Things to Consider When Reviewing Your Homeowner’s Policy

Homeowners Insurance Policy And Benefits. Legal Form

Spring clean-up time will be here soon. It usually includes both removing the old or unused and adding a touch of something new to your home or yard. At Superior Insurance & Auto Tags we think the annual review of your homeowner’s policy works the same way. It should not only include removing what no longer serves, but it may need some updating to reflect your home and its possible needs for the coming year. Read on for our top five ideas to be considered when reviewing your policy.

  1. Know your policy coverage. Take the time each year to read over your policy. Look at your numbers and consider the current economy. If a catastrophe did occur, do you have enough coverage for the rising cost of supplies? Though rare, if there were another tornado in our area, are you covered for all the possibilities?
  2. Evaluate changes made in the past year. If you have added or removed anything like a deck, patio, or pool, ensure that your coverage will include any issues that could occur. Also think about any remodeling or updating you have done to the inside or roof of your home. Adding certain roofing or a security system may help lower your policy premiums.
  3. Think about all your policies. Do you have other policies that could be combined with your homeowner’s policy? If you have added new technology throughout your home, or purchased jewelry and added coverage, could those be working better for you in a combined policy? As you read your policies, look for any overlap or possible ways you can combine coverage.
  4. How was your customer service? Unfortunately, each year many people do have home damages due to fire, water, or theft. If you were one of the affected, how was your service when you called? If you know someone who had an issue, discuss that experience with them as well. There is great service out there and okay service out there, too. If you are involved in an event, lessen your stress by knowing you have willing people at the ready to help you navigate back to the home you remember.
  5. Spring is (almost) in the air. Look ahead at what you are planning for the upcoming year. Call ahead and make an appointment to review this with your trusted insurance agent, being sure to include in the discussion any potential changes you are considering. Work together with your agency and policy to save stress, time, and money. Cleaning up your policy and learning from your insurance company about any potential savings or changes will assist in ensuring you are getting the most for your potential insurance needs.
